Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge Clinic

A BSA merit badge clinic will be held in conjunction with the 2008 Omaha Preparedness Fair, where scouts will have the opportunity to earn both Emergency Preparedness and First Aid merit badges. These two merit badges are required for scouts to earn the Eagle Scout Award.

As part of these merit badge requirements scouts will learn about:

First Aid Procedures
Proper CPR Techniques
Preparing a home first aid kit
Preparing for emergency situations
Recognizing emergency situations
Reacting to emergency situations
Preparing a written plan for mobilizing emergency service
Directing traffic during an emergency
And many more...

The merit badge clinic will be held at the same time and location as the Omaha Preparedness Fair.

Sign up for the Blood Drive

From 9am to 3pm at the 2008 Omaha Preparedness Fair the Red Cross will be holding a blood drive. Their goal is to have 74 units of blood donated which will require 110-120 donors.

The Red Cross has indicated that National blood supplies need a boost. Help them and especially those in need by signing up today.

Emergency Preparedness Fair coming to Omaha

OMAHA – This summer, Eastern Nebraska has seen more than its share of disasters.

There have been fatal tornadoes, severe thunder and hail storms, economic hardship, and any number of personal emergencies.

Most people know being prepared for emergencies is important. Preparation can not only mean the difference between life and death, but also a way of protecting families and individuals from emotional, financial and physical trauma - not to mention peace of mind in the meantime.

But where does preparedness start? What is most important? Is preparedness affordable? These questions and many more will be answered at the Third Annual Omaha Preparedness Fair on August 23rd.

In collaboration with other local and national community organizations The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is Co-sponsoring and Hosting the event to help community residents be prepared for whatever comes their way. The Fair will be held at the LDS Church; 14680 California St. (near West Dodge and 144th Street).

Though it may be impossible to anticipate all of the possible emergencies a community could face, the Omaha Preparedness Fair will focus on:

· First Aid/Family & Home Medical
· Disaster Response
· 72-Hour Emergency Kits
· Gardening
· Food Storage/Canning
· Basic Family Finance
· Emergency Cooking
· Water Storage
· Emergency Care for Pets
· Legal & Document Preparedness

The free fair will also provide a venue for the local fire, police, and sheriffs departments to inform the community of Emergency Services. Additionally, 72-hour starter kits will be given away to the first 1,000 families attending.

As well as an opportunity to prepare your own family for emergencies, the Omaha Preparedness Fair will give participants a chance to serve in emergency preparedness for those in need around the world. Service projects in conjunction with the Fair will include a Red Cross Blood Drive and quilt-tying as part of a world-wide Humanitarian Aid effort.

We are only about a month away from this year's Omaha Preparedness Fair. This year's event is an opportunity for the Omaha community to come and learn about all facets of emergency preparedness including: food storage, first aid, gardening, physical fitness, care for the elderly, water preservation, etc.

Admission is free, and the first 1000 people will receive free 72-hour kits. The Red Cross will be on hand holding a blood drive, and free blood pressure checks will be given.

With the amount of inclement weather we've already experienced this year, in addition to tough economic times, there has never been a better time to prepare your family for the future.
